According to the Latin American Iron & Steel Institute (Alacero) recently released data show that from January to April 2014, the total Chinese exports of hot rolled steel was 23.3 million tons last year, an increase of 33%, of which exports amounted to 2.5 million tons in Latin America, and last year grew 78% in Latin America (after South Korea) to become the second largest export destination for Chinese hot-rolled steel.

Latin America in the first quarter of the world's 5% consumption of hotrolled steel, accounting for 11% of China's total exports. The largest increase in Chinese imports of hot rolled steel country is Brazil, an increase of 193%, an increase of 144% in Mexico. Imports of Paraguay and Argentina in Latin America, although each 1% of total imports, but than a threefold increase over the same period last year. Latin American steel consumption in Central America accounted for 4%, imports accounted for 11% of total imports in Latin America, half of which come from China.
